Frequently Asked Questions

What is BOTOX?

Botox Cosmetic (Botox), is the best known brand name for botulinum toxin type A. Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA in 2002 to treat glabellar lines, also known as frown lines, and 1's, 11's or 111's (vertical lines) between the eyebrows in people ages 65 and younger. It is used for treatment of dynamic expression wrinkles as well as already formed static wrinkles (wrinkles seen when you are not using your face muscles.)

Botox Cosmetic has also been approved for treatment of hyperhydrosis, or excessive sweating of hands, feet and armpits, as well as cervical dystonia (involuntary painful neck muscle spasm) and migranes, strabismus (crossed eyes) or blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking).

Because it is fairly affordable and minimally invasive, Botox Cosmetic has become the number one cosmetic procedure performed in the United States with 11 million women and men treated already.

How will I know which treatment I should use?

Most clients come in to our offices knowing the results they want, but they’re often not sure which treatments would best help them reach those results. That’s ok. Given your unique physique, medical history, and preferences, a trained doctor will help you choose the option that’s right for you.

Are these treatments safe?

All of our treatments have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration for use in cosmetics because they have been tested successfully in multiple clinical trials. Also, we only use brand-name products that have been on the market for several years. Still, there are some conditions under which people with certain medical conditions should not use these products. (Please see those conditions here.) These treatments should never be used without the prescription of a licensed medical doctor. At the Victory Clinic, Dr. Zimilevich or another qualified medical doctor will do a thorough evaluation of your relevant medical factors before prescribing any treatments. It is also important to note that like most cosmetic drugs, these treatments have been associated with a very low incidence of unwanted side effects. (Please see those side effects here.) The effect most clients experience, however, is simply the rejuvenating effect of younger, healthier looking skin!

Will it hurt?

Many clients worry that the treatment will be painful. However, after treatment, most clients report that they felt little to no pain at the time of injection and that their skin returned to normal sensation shortly afterward.

What areas can be treated?

Our treatments are primarily used to reduce unwanted wrinkles and restore skin elasticity on the face and hands. Each of the treatments we use has special areas strength. Since one treatment may be better for plumping the lips and another treatment may be better for treating forehead wrinkles, your care plan may include different treatments for different areas of your face.

What happens if I don’t like the results?

We schedule a follow-up appointment for every client one week after their initial treatment. At this time, any problem areas are fully addressed to accomplish your desired results. Also, since the body naturally processes the chemicals we use, none of our treatments cause permanent results from one injection. Your future treatments are carefully crafted to reproduce only what you like most about your new look.

How long will results last?

The duration of results varies based on several factors: the products used, the quantities and placement, and your body’s unique chemistry. However, most clients enjoy lasting results for three to six months or longer before returning for a touch-up.

When will I start to see results?

You can usually start to see results before even leaving our office! However, we allow roughly a week for your body to adjust completely before evaluating and adjusting the results.
